“We travel for like certain events in different places,” said Amaya. She plans to travel to New Mexico for an event in February. It is her use of energy and the skill to use as she pleases. Her finest quality, however, is something less purely visible. Not only does Amaya enjoy doing Aztec dance, she is very good at it to the point where she travels to perform it. Amayas dancing is powerful, emotional, earthy and graceful. She credits her passion for the dance style to her uncle who moved to Salt Lake City from Mexico and introduced her and her family to it when she was 8. Surprisingly enough, Aztec dance hasn’t always been in Amaya’s life though. “My family’s in it and I’ve been doing it longer so like I feel that spirit and peace that come with it.”
“I like because it’s in our culture,” Amaya said. Since she was little Amaya has worked hard at her dancing skills practicing in hip hop and contemporary but Aztec remains, by far, her favorite. Leaping and dancing, she shares a part of her culture with her peers at Highland’s Talents and Traditions Assembly through traditional Aztec dance.Īs a junior at Highland High School, Amaya can say that she loves to dance.
Feeling the music as she owns the stage Amaya moves to the beat of the the solo drum. The undersigned/student also certifies that they are covered by a medical insurance plan and when asked will present the needed information for approval to attend and participate at Amaya Dance.Drums pound, feathers flit, feet prance, as hundreds of students cheer her on, but Jaira Amaya’s mind remains clear. The undersigned/student, personal representatives heirs, executors and successors hereby waive any claim of accidental and or negligent tort damages or injury against Amaya Dance, its owners, invitees and instructors at 2726 Fondren Rd, Houston, TX 77063 to include adjacent parking areas and driveways. I hereby represent and certify that I am in good physical condition, and have no diseases, injuries or other physical or mental conditions that would impair my ability to participate.
AMAYA DANCE FREE
Participation in these activities is voluntary and entirely of my own free will. I personally, totally and completely assume all risks involved or in any way related to my participation in these classes or private instructions, whether known or unknown to me at the present time. Furthermore, I acknowledge that there may be risks not known to me and or not reasonably foreseeable at this time. In consideration of being allowed to attend the Studio the undersigned/student acknowledges that learning various dances are physical activities and that participation may result in serious injury including death, and or other damage, due not only to the undersigned/students actions, inaction or negligence, but also to that of others associated with and or present at these or other classes. Signing this waiver also means that the undersigned/student releases Amaya Dance and its owners and instructors from any liability in case of injury or death from or related, directly or indirectly, to dance instruction at the Amaya Dance Studio on Fondren Road in Houston, Texas. By signing this waiver of claims and liability the student, parent or guardian acknowledges that they have read this agreement and will abide by all rules of INSTRUCTORS AND AMAYA DANCE. All students must sign this waiver of claims and liability.
